Lorenzo Masotto is an Italian pianist and composer from a village just outside Verona. He graduated from his studies on Pianoforte and Composition at the Conservatory F.E.Dall’Abaco abacus in Verona, before continuing his studies at The Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar (Germany). His music has been released on labels such as Dronarivm, Preserved Sound and he returns to Whitelabrecs following 2021’s ‘i=r’ with this new album, Earde.

Named after the Cimbrian word for earth, Earde is a deeply personal and evocative tribute to the landscapes that surround Masotto’s home in Giazza, a small village at the foot of the Little Dolomites in Northern Italy. Inspired by the serene beauty of its woods, streams, and meadows, as well as his journeys through Icelandic glaciers and the towering peaks of the Dolomites, the album channels the raw, poetic power of nature into a rich, harmonic experience.

Masotto’s compositions are brought to life through the natural acoustics of a deconsecrated church where the piano, strings, solo voice and choir were recorded, to harness the room’s natural reverb. This setting lends a live and organic feel to the album, reflecting Masotto’s philosophy of music as a direct, vibrational connection between artist and listener. For Lorenzo, each note is not merely sound but a moment of pure energy that unites musician, instrument, and audience in a shared, transcendent experience.

At its heart, Earde is an exploration of the profound connections between place, memory, and creativity. Lorenzo Masotto invites listeners to join him on a meditative journey through a sound which echoes the strength and fragility of the natural world.
