As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Reveries, we’re delighted to present Detroit Interpretations, a two-track EP that offers a fresh perspective on the arrangements "Vale" and "Cadere". These lovely arrangements come as a wonderful surprise from a group of talented musicians based in Detroit, Michigan (US). The project was produced by John Hanson, known artistically as Saltbreaker, who enlisted local musicians to reinterpret two of his favorite pieces from Reveries (Sonic Cathedral, SCR275) by Dawn Chorus and the Infallible Sea.

Reflecting on the process, Hanson shares:

“I’m fortunate to be part of an incredibly creative community here in Detroit, where I was able to bring in session players for improvised overdubs. First, Tenor Saxophonist Yali Rivlin laid down his part, followed by Alto Saxophonist Thalamus Morris, and finally, Jordan Hamilton on cello. Each artist recorded a single pass, and I composed and arranged the piece around their performances.

These remixes bring a new elegance and vibrancy to Reveries while remaining true to its core mood of serene melancholy. The addition of horns and cello introduces a playful yet sophisticated dynamic, complementing the original compositions. It feels like a ‘Detroit response’ to these already beautiful recordings. Detroit is overflowing with raw creative energy—there’s an unmatched grit and talent here. Introducing a rhythmic element shifts the feel of these tracks, but I hope these reflections transport listeners to a world as exciting as the one we experienced while making them.”

Hanson shared his arrangements with Dawn Chorus and the Infallible Sea, along with label owner Nat, and now, we are thrilled to unveil these remarkable interpretations of Vale and Cadere. Thank you, Detroit!
