Spain-based multidisciplinary artist Sofía Bertomeu joins Low Versions with The Uncertainty Principle, a captivating four-song ambient techno EP that takes inspiration from the enigmatic principle of uncertainty. Bertomeu is adept at interweaving distant field recordings and spacious synth pads with the hypnotic pulse of techno, resulting in a sonic journey that explores the boundaries of perception and unpredictability.
The Uncertainty Principle’s atmospheric textures and subtle, pulsating beats invite the listener to delve into the realm of ambiguity, embodying the simultaneous duality and unpredictability inherent in quantum mechanics. For this project, Bertomeu invites genre-breaking Spanish artist Isabel Fructuoso, who has been crossing boundaries of jazz, latin, candombe, and electronic music among others since the 1990s. Fructuoso has collaborated with countless artists and created groups including Afrobeat, Ray Davies, Axwell, and Bah Samba.
The Uncertainty Principle challenges us to embrace infinite possibility, offering a thought-provoking and immersive experience that captures the essence of the impermanent unknown in sonic form.
"Laced with a shimmering iridescence, the music is hypnotizing and poisonous. Voices are like shadows lurking behind us just out of reach. “Ajena” finds Bertomeu teaming up with Spanish legend, Isabel Fructuoso, for an ephemeral, romantic dance. Aqueous arpeggios glisten across emotive chord progressions and spectral vocals. It is unforgettable. The progressive beats return with subterranean expressiveness so The Uncertainty Principle can lodge itself in our collective psyche before romping through angular corridors deep into the night."
